Amr Moussa, Wafd officials support Abu Shoka in Wafd election

CAIRO – 13 March 2018: Al-Wafd Party Secretary-General Bahaaeddin Abu Shoka met on Tuesday with a number of party officials, including Amr Moussa, "Honorary President" of the party for life, sources told Youm7 days before the party’s chairmanship election.

Mahmoud Abaza, former chairman of the party, and Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, former minister of industry, trade, and investment, also attended the meeting.

According to sources, Moussa, Abaza and Abdel Nour have agreed to support candidate Abu Shoka for the chairmanship of the party.

Candidates to the chairmanship race also include Hossam Al-Kholi, deputy chairman of the party; Yasser Hassan, head of the party’s media committee; and the grandson of Saad Zaghloul, the late founder of the party. The vote is set to take place on March 30.

In a statement on Tuesday, Hassan expressed his respect for all the candidates and said that his electoral program aims at resolving the challenges the party faces in a scientific and legal way.

In a statement published on Monday, Khouli’s electoral campaign expressed the campaign members’ respect for Abu Shoka, as they consider him a “father and mentor”. Campaign members affirmed they would not tolerate any abuse directed at Abu Shoka.
