CAIRO – 27 April 2017: Egypt’s Special Council, the top authority of the State Council, will have a General Assembly meeting on May 20 to elect a new council head.

The General Assembly is scheduled to promote a large number of judges from the level of agents to the rank of vice-president and others from the rank of adviser to the level of Under-Secretary of the State Council.

On April 3, the State Council rejected a new draft law on the Judicial Authority which was sent by the parliament and includes amendments to some articles regulating the State Council.

The new draft law reportedly stipulates that the president would appoint the heads of the judicial authorities.

On June 30, 2016, Council President Dr. Mohamed Masoud was elected to the position. His term ends June 30, 2017
