CAIRO - 20 February 2018: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has said that Algerian nationalist Djamila Bouhired is a symbol of sacrifice in defense of the homeland.

Shoukry met Bouhired on the sidelines of her visit to Egypt to be honored at the Aswan Women Film Festival.

Shoukry hailed as "historical" relations between the two countries, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

He said Egypt always supported the Algerian National Liberation Front and all national liberation movements in the Arab and African countries, Abu Zeid added.

Bouhired was happy to be in Egypt for the first time since her last visit in 1962.

She said the Algerian people cannot possibly forget Egypt's support for their revolution.
