CAIRO - 28 January 2018: The Salafit al-Nour Party has announced its support to President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to run for a second term in the presidential election due in March, said the party chairperson Younes Makhioun in a press conference on Sunday.

"President Sisi is the only person who can bring the country the stability and protection," Makhyoun said, calling on people to participate in the election due in March.

The statement came as follows:

In accordance with the party’s decision-based counseling, the party surveyed the views of the various party bodies, offices and secretariats in the governorates.

Accordingly, the Party’s Supreme Committee saw that the incumbent president, Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, is the most capable of upholding such great responsibilities and can enhance cooperation amongst all state institutions: the police, the parliament, the administrative bodies to achieve stability, and save the country from a multitude of dangers.

For this reason, Al-Nour Party expresses its support for President Abdel-Fatah al-Sisi for a second term, and urges their members and all Egyptians to participate in the elections as the party is motivated by a concern for building and construction, and to ward off negativity and despair. God save Egypt and its people.

God is the body of our nation, we are rational and our affairs are our choice.

Kamal Habib, a researcher and expert on Islamic movements, told Egypt Today on Saturday that al-Nour party’s parliamentarians have signed petitions to support President al-Sisi to run for a second term, which might have given a strong indication about the party’s preferences in the elections, as he put it.

To date, President Sisi is the sole presidential candidate who submitted his candidacy application to the National Election Authority for the upcoming elections; most eligible candidates who announced their bids to run in the election retreated their decision. The deadline of the candidacy is set on Monday.

The presidential election is set to take place from March 26-28, with a possible run-off scheduled for April 24-26. If no run-offs are necessary, the winner will be announced on April 2.
