CAIRO – 15 January 2018: Arab Tribes Council is expected to hold a conference on Monday to call on President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi to run for the upcoming presidential elections. Eight tribes will take part in this conference in the Red Sea city of Ras Sedr.

Tribal leader Sheikh Ibrahim Attiya told Egypt Today that major tribes in Ras Sedr are determined to vote for Sisi in the presidential elections to lead Egypt for a second four-year term.

"Arab Tribes Council will officially announce its support to Sisi in this conference, which will witness the attendance of South Sinai governorate's undersecretary major-general Mahmoud Eid and municipals' chiefs of Ras Sedr, Abo Zanema and Abo Rades," Attiya added.

Over 4,000 endorsement forms were registered so far in South Sinai governorate, according to the statements of the Nation’s Future Party’s officials to Egypt Today on Sunday.

Hundreds of Egyptians have rallied to real estate registration offices nationwide to fill in endorsement forms for Sisi, urging him to continue fighting against corruption and terrorism plots schemed against Egypt.

Voting in the 2018 presidential elections in Egypt will start on March 26, as announced by the National Electoral Authority (NEA) on Monday, January 8. Sixty million eligible voters will cast their ballots in the election between March 26 and 28 in Egypt, while expatriates will vote between March 16 and 18.

In a press conference held by NEA Chairman Lasheen Ibrahim on Monday, he affirmed that the final list of candidates will be announced on February 24, noting that the deadline for any candidate to retract will be on March 1. The primary results of the first round of the elections will be announced on March 29, after decisions on appeals submitted by candidates, if any, are made.

President Sisi, who has not yet announced his candidacy for a second four-year term, is the sixth president of Egypt; he came to office in June 2014 after the June 30 Revolution, which toppled former President Mohamed Morsi, who is affiliated with the now-outlawed Muslim Brotherhood.
