CAIRO – 3 January 2018: The “Unified Jerusalem” law approved by the Knesset on Tuesday constitutes a clear violation of the international legitimacy resolutions, which prohibit taking any actions that could change the holy city’s status quo, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid asserted on Wednesday.

This came in response to a request by MENA for comment on Egypt's stance regarding the Israeli law.

The move poses an obstacle to the future of Middle East peace process and hinders reaching a just settlement to the Palestinian cause, Abu Zeid said.

Also, it represents an encroachment on the status of Jerusalem; a sensitive issue that should be resolved through direct negotiations between the parties concerned, he added.
