Egyptian State’s reaction towards the churches’ attacks

 Egyptian government has declared a three-day-mourning after two bombings that targeted churches in Tanta, north of Cairo and Alexandria city during Palm Sunday services.

 President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi strongly slammed the heinous blast targeted Mar Gerges Church at Tanta city, Gharbia Governorate earlier on Sunday.

 Al-Sisi directed the Cabinet and all security apparatus across Egypt to move immediately toward the accident scene and take necessary measures to provide remedy and care for injuries.
 The President called for holding an urgent meeting for the National Defense Council to discuss the repercussions of Mar Gerges Church terror attack.


 Furthermore, Al-Sisi charged the military forces to cooperate with the civil police to secure all the vital headquarters across the republic’s governorates.

 The Prime Minister, Sherif Ismail, condemned terrorist incident which happened this morning at Mar Girgis Church in Tanta, Al-Gharbeya, and condolences to the victims of the criminal incident wishing the injured speedy recovery.

 The prime minister stressed the determination of the state to eliminate terrorist acts and destroy terrorism from its root.

 Ismail pledged to identify the perpetrators behind Egyptian churches’ explosions during a meeting with Gharbia governor and Bishop Paul of Tanta.

 Egyptian Minister of interior Abdel Ghafar decided Sunday to dismiss Security director in Gharbia governorate along with other ranks in the National Security over the attacks targeted churches in both governorates Alexandria and Gharbia.

 On the other hand, Egyptian foreign Ministry assigned its representative in the UN Security Council to immediately urge the Council’s members to issue a condemnation of both attacks targeted Egypt’s churches.

 Egyptian Minister of Health cancelled all Physicians Holidays to provide the needed care for the attacks’ injuries, following a visit by the Minister of Health Ahmed Emad al-Din to Alexandria’s hospitals to check on Saint Mark’s Cathedral bombing’s victims.


 Egypt witnessed two attacks against its churches during Palms Sunday services, the first explosion hit Mar Girgis Church in Tanta, killing 30 and injuring 71, four hours later, a suicide bomber blew himself up in front of Saint Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Alexandria leaving 16 killed and at least 40 injured.
