CAIRO - 26 December 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Tuesday Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed El Tayyeb.

El Tayyeb slammed Israel's detention of Palestinian teenager Ahed Tamimi, saying her courage and that of her family are a proof of the failure of the Israeli occupation to break the Palestinians' resistance and struggle against occupation.

El Tayyeb noted that Tamimi's courage isn't surprising, greeting her and all the Palestinian women who play a crucial role in protecting Al Aqsa Mosque from the Israeli occupation.

Al Azhar can't forget the Palestinian women prisoners, who are a symbol of the Palestinian struggle, he added.

The grand imam called on international rights organizations to stand by Ahed Tamimi and all Palestinian detainees held in captivity in Israeli dungeons for no crime other than defending their right to liberate their land and establish their independent country.

The Tamimi girl was detained by Israel after a video showing her and her cousin attacking heavily armed Israeli soldiers and slapping and kicking them went viral on the internet. The two girls acted in that way one hour after the soldiers shot at and badly injured a relative. The 15-year-old boy, Mohammed Tamimi, is now receiving treatment at a hospital.
