CAIRO – 23 December 2017: Nagy Aref, head of the North Cairo Electricity Distribution Company, said on Saturday that the company implemented 60 percent of the plan to convert pneumatic cables to ground cables, which are the areas under the company’s authority. Six lines were converted.

Sources told Egypt Today that Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker will hold an urgent meeting next week with the heads of electricity distributing companies to detect the challenges they face in implementing the plan, especially after the ministry has provided the necessary funds.

The ministry has a plan to convert 2,481 km of pneumatic cables to ground cables in Egypt. The project costs LE 1 billion ($56 million) and is supposed to be completely implemented by next June.

The project aims at protecting the safety of citizens and not to endanger their lives, as well as to prevent the interruption in electricity during bad weather conditions and to avoid targeting electrical installations from sabotage.
