CAIRO – 21 December 2017: Italy's Prosecutor-General Sergio Cola Yoko arrived on Thursday to Egypt on a two-day visit to meet his Egyptian counterpart Nabil Sadeq and the Egyptian investigations team, officials told Egypt Today.

The Italian Prosecutor general is scheduled to meet with Prosecutor General Sadeq to discuss the latest updates in the joint investigations between the two countries that started in March 2016, looking into the homicide of Italian student Giulio Regeni.

On January 25, 2016, the 28-year old postgraduate student Regeni disappeared in Cairo, only for his dead body to be found on February 3 alongside the Cairo-Alexandria highway, bearing signs of extreme torture and beating, according to Reuters. This murder has since led to strained relations between Italy and Egypt.
