CAIRO – 19 December 2017: A security alert was sent to all sectors of the Ministry of Interior on Tuesday ahead of Christmas celebrations, according to a source inside the ministry. “230,000 police officers are deployed across the state,” the source said.

The ministry has taken all the necessary precautions to protect churches and will close the area in front of churches to vehicle traffic as a security measure. Special invitations and permissions will be given to guests and photographers to ensure the protection of worshippers this holiday season.

Security personnel will take swift and decisive action against anyone who provokes hatred, hostility and chaos. “We won’t accept any breach of the law,” a high-profile security official asserted.

The Ministry of Interior also instructed all security commanders to monitor the performance of security measures that could disturb holiday celebrations. Confrontation with terrorist elements in Sinai may push terrorist groups to commit hostile acts, the source added.
