CAIRO - 19 December 2017: Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit on Tuesday denounced a US veto in the United Nations Security Council aborting a draft resolution that was sponsored by Egypt for protecting the status of the holy city of Al Quds.

Abul Gheit, in press statements, expressed discontent over the US veto against the draft.

He said that the US stance causes more of its isolation and that using the veto right against 14 other member states uncovers the US's flagrant defiance of a clear international consensus over the issue.

The Arab countries will go to the United Nations General Assembly for passing a draft resolution under the article "United for Peace" so that it could be mandatory to all UN agencies, he added.

Egypt sponsored the draft in the UNSC after US President Donald Trump issued a decision on December 7 announcing Washington's recognition of Al Quds as the capital of Israel.
