CAIRO – 15 December 2017: “Egypt understands the liabilities that North Korea cause with their continuous breach of the UNSC’s resolutions,” Egypt’s representative to the United Nations Security Council Ambassador Amr Abo El-Ata said.

The statement came during a ministerial meeting at the UN Security Council on Friday.

The ambassador called on all parties to maintain negotiations and discussions, since imposing sanctions indefinitely is not effective.

“Maintaining negotiations and discussions with North Korea are pivotal in keeping the door for negotiations open in the framework of maintaining everyone’s security,” Abo El-Ata stated.

Abo El-Ata also called on North Korea to return to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Organization as a non-nuclear state during his speech at the meeting.
