CAIRO – 14 December 2017: The reported penicillin shortage has not been resolved despite the repeated assurance by the Ministry of Health that the vaccine is available on the market, according to local media outlets on Thursday.

Spokesman of the Ministry of Health Khaled Mujahid announced on Tuesday the availability of the vaccine penicillin on the local market following its five-month disappearance.

In a phone in with TV show Yahdos Fi Masr (Happening in Egypt) on MBC Egypt TV channel on Tuesday, Mujahid said that the ministry stepped in to address the penicillin shortage through a raft of measures, stressing that the ministry has signed an agreement with the Chinese supplier to provide the market with one million packs of the vaccine.

Mujahid further confirmed that the ministry is currently providing 100,000 packs on a daily basis which started last Tuesday. He added that the ministry will conduct regular inspections of the pharmacies across Egypt.
