CAIRO – 11 December 2017: The U.S embassy in Cairo issued a disclaimer on Monday warning citizens from fake accounts on social media that are releasing false news, clarifying that the embassy has only one website where all security warnings are posted.

The embassy issued its warning after a number of fake accounts on social media published false caution to U.S. citizens in Egypt on potential terrorist threats in particular areas.

The embassy advised U.S. citizens in Egypt to avoid all protests planned on Friday in Cairo and Alexandria in the aftermath of U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to move the Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, recognizing the historical city as the Jewish state’s capital, on Wednesday.
