CAIRO – 10 December 2017: Council of Senior Scholars of Al-Azhar will hold an emergency session headed by Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb on Tuesday to discuss the repercussions of Trump's declaration regarding Jerusalem.

On Wednesday December 6, United States’ President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel during a televised speech from the White House.

Egypt’s Al-Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed al-Tayeb announced on Friday his rejection to meet with U.S. Vice-President Mike Pence, who will visit Egypt on December 20.

The Council of the Arab League decided during its emergency session held Saturday to hold a meeting in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan within a month.

The council will evaluate the situation and decide on future steps regarding the updates following Trump's decision, Jordanian Ammon News reported.
