SHARM EL SHEIKH - 6 December 2017: The conference on promoting future cooperation among Nile Basin Trade Union Federation of Commerce Workers kicked off on Wednesday.

During inaugurating the two-day event, South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda delivered a speech besides the representative of the World Federation of Trade Unions and the head of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation.

The spokesman of the Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hossam el Imam delivered a speech on behalf of the Water Resources Minister Mohamed Abdel Atti where he pointed out to the important role played by the Nile Basin Trade Union Federation of Commerce Workers in bolstering cooperation among the trade unions of the Nile Basin countries so as to enhance development opportunities in the region.

Imam further affirmed the need to enhance dialogue as the only way to promote cooperation among the Nile Basin countries.

The spokesman underlined that the Nile River is the only source of water for the Egyptian people, while several countries have other mechanisms to fulfill their people's needs from water.

Egypt is the only Nile-Basin country that treats wastewater to fulfill its needs of water, he asserted, adding that water deficit in Egypt reached about 90%.

The Egyptian expertise in the field of water management is offered to all Nile-Basin countries via specialized research centers as Egypt believes that rationalizing the use of Nile River water is the only way to preserve it.
