CAIRO - December 5 2017: Kuwait's Emir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated the Gulf leaders for their success in holding the 38th round of the Gulf Cooperation Council summit despite all the conflicts that the region has been witnessing in recent months.

He added in his opening speech for the GCC summit that the region has witnessed painful events and negative escalations, especially during the past six months; however, due to the wisdom of the Arab leaders, the efforts are still continuing to calm the latest disputes.

Sheikh Sabah also highlighted the crisis in Yemen, describing it as “tragic.” He praised the efforts of the Arab Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen to alleviate the difficult circumstances experienced by the Yemeni people.

He also noted that the only solution for the crisis in Sanaa must be “political,” saying, "In this regard, we call on Houthis to comply with the international community's demand for a serious political solution to end this crisis."

Kuwait's emir also affirmed in his speech that the international community succeeded in defeating terrorism in Iraq and Syria; however, the conflicts still threaten the whole world. "We congratulate our brotherly nation in Iraq for defeating the IS terrorist group," Sabah stated.

Talking about Iran, Sheikh Sabah said that Tehran's government is still violating the international regulations between countries and nations. He added that Iran does not commit with the international law, especially regarding its neighboring countries and interfering in those countries’ sovereignty.

"The country will not witness any stability unless we all commit to the international law," Sheikh Sabah said.

He also announced by the end of the summit that the next round will be hosted in Oman.
