CAIRO – 7 March 2017: U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Stephen Beecroft and Luxor Governor Mohammed Badr inaugurated the expansion of Luxor’s wastewater treatment plant Monday, the U.S. Embassy said in a

statement

.


Funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and carried out in partnership with the Luxor Potable Water and Sanitation Company, the expansion will double the capacity of the system to provide wastewater treatment to the residents of Luxor and El Bayadeya.


“Effective treatment of wastewater is essential to protecting public health and ensuring a clean environment, and help those who depend on the Nile for clean water,” said Ambassador Beecroft, according to the statement.


The U.S. Ambassador began his trip with a visit to Luxor School for Smarts in Science and Technology in New Tiba. He expressed his admiration for the students’ level and described them as “smart and ambitious,”
