CAIRO – 1 December 2017: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed that there is no alternative to the political solution; it is the only method to solve Libya’s current crisis.

On the sidelines of the Mediterranean Dialogue Forum in Rome, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Friday with Ahmed Maiteeq, vice president of the Libyan Presidential Council.

During the meeting, Shoukry stressed on the unity of the Libyan territories, calling on the political concerned parties to consensually discuss the vision the country is up, especially after the termination of the ruling of the presidential council in order to avoid any constitutional vacuum.

For his part, Maiteeq expressed his “utmost appreciation ‘for Egypt's role in supporting the Libyan people and its military institutions and sponsoring the political process in Libya, especially the efforts undertaken by the Egyptian representative in the Security Council concerning the Libyan crisis.’”

Extensively discussed, Maiteeq expressed his support and appreciation for Egypt’s endeavors in its battle against terrorism domestically and regionally; offering his condolences to the Egyptian people over the loss of the victims fallen due to the terrorism attack that hit Al-Rawdah mosque last Friday.

Both officials discussed several issues of common interest, including efforts undertaken from both sides to combat illegal immigration, as well as combating human trafficking.
