RAMALLAH - 28 November 2017: Egypt is capable of defeating terrorism as it did in the eighties and nineties of the past century, Egyptian Ambassador to Israel Hazem Khairat said.

Addressing a symposium held in the Israeli town of Herzliya on the 40th anniversary of late president Anwar el-Sadat's historic visit to Israel, Khairat said Egypt has taken the responsibility of achieving a balance between counter-terrorism and human rights at international forums.

The Egyptian army has taken the lead in the fight against terrorism and pledged not to harm citizens, he stressed, expressing his grieve over the victims of the terrorist attack that targeted a mosque in North Sinai Friday.

"Islam has nothing to do with such terrorist attacks," he said, adding that the Holy Quran orders Muslims to respect worship places and promote Islamic values.

He also called on the world countries to reach a coordinated and comprehensive strategy to confront terrorism.
