CAIRO – 2 March 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi expressed Egypt’s interest in adopting the Russian experience in the fields of shipbuilding and civil aviation, Russian Deputy Prime Minister for the defense industry Dmitry Rogozin said after meeting with Sisi on Wednesday,

"President Sisi stressed the great interest in learning about and using the experience of the Russian civil shipbuilding, in particular, for the development of shipyards in Alexandria,” Rogozin said. “He [Sisi] also expressed interest in the latest Russian developments in the field of civil aviation, particularly in the [Irkut] MC-21 aircraft.”

The meeting was held in Cairo in the presence of Minister of State for Military Production General Mohamed El Assar, the deputies of the Russian ministers of Foreign Affairs and Industry and Trade and the Russian Ambassador to Egypt.

According to a presidential statement, Sisi emphasized the importance of establishing a partnership with Russia in various economic and industrial fields, particularly through the establishment of a Russian industrial zone in Egypt, Presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef said. Sisi also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to cooperate with Russia in the manufacturing of civilian and military products.

The meeting tackled the means to strengthen bilateral relations between Egypt and Russia, especially in industrial and technological fields.

“The Russian Deputy Prime Minister delivered to the president the greetings of the Russian President, and stressed his country's pride with its extended historical ties with Egypt,” Youssef said, adding that Rogozin praised Egypt's important role in the Middle East as well as its efforts in the fight against terrorism

Russia announced in late February it was ready to sign a military technology deal with Egypt if the latter managed to solve its financial troubles,

according to the CEO of the Russian Rostec State Corporation
