Cairo – 1 March 2017: The General Prosecutor's office in Port Said ordered the imprisonment of 25 defendants late Tuesday pending further investigations after hundreds rioted in protest of a court decision upholding the death sentence for 11 people over a 2012 football riot that killed dozens,

Youm7 reported

.

The defendants are charged with illegal assembly, damaging police cars, blocking the highway, igniting tires on River Road, and attacking the police force.

A security source told Youm7, “the investigations lasted for six hours and were conducted by six prosecutors.”

Egypt’s highest appeals court upheld the death sentences last week, for murder and other charges during the 2012 riot that killed over 70 people during a football match between Port Said’s Al-Masry and Cairo's Al-Ahly.
