Skiing comes to Africa with Mall of Egypt opening Thursday

Cairo – 28 February 2017: Skiing will be available in Egypt for the first time starting Thursday, when the $722 million Mall of Egypt will open to the public,

a Wednesday press release by Majid Al Futtaim Group revealed

The two-level, 165,000 square meter mall is located in 6th of October City on Al Wahat Road. It is expected to create more than 41,000 direct and indirect job opportunities, according to the press release.

“In-line with our vision of creating great moments for everyone every day, today we are proud to open the doors of Mall of Egypt,” said Ghaith Shocair, CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Properties – Shopping Malls. The mall will be “bringing snow to the city” through Ski Egypt, the first indoor ski slope in Africa, and will feature an array of exclusive international brands and “innovative leisure and entertainment concepts.” Among these are the 21-theater VOX Cinemas and family entertainment at Magic Planet and Little Explorer, all of which are coming to the Egyptian market for the first time.

Majid Al Futtaim also invested another EGP 300 million to develop the surrounding neighborhood and road networks over an area of approximately 10 km, in order to “provide safe entrances and exits to mall visitors and alleviate the traffic in the neighborhood,” the press release said.
