RAMALLAH, Nov 21 (MENA) - Egyptian Ambassador to Israel Hazem Khairat on Tuesday reiterated Egypt's stance on establishing an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with al-Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

Addressing the Knesset on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of late president Anwar el-Sadat's historic visit to Israel, Khairat said the two-state solution, backed by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, is the best solution to bring about peace in the Middle East region.

The Arab countries are committed to the peace initiative adopted at the Beirut-hosted Arab summit in 2002, he noted.

Israeli settlements in the Palestinian territories do not serve the peace talks with Palestinians, Khairat said.

He also praised efforts exerted by the US administration to revive peace talks between the Palestinians and Israelis.
