CAIRO – 16 November 2017: Cypriot Ambassador in Cairo Kharis Moritzis stressed the importance of the fifth trilateral summit with Egypt and Greece, set for Nicosia on Tuesday.

The summit will group President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

In statements to MENA on Thursday, the Cypriot ambassador underlined the importance of cooperation among Egypt, Greece and Cyprus at the regional level, describing the trilateral mechanism as a model of cooperation.

Egyptian-Cypriot ties are deeply-rooted since the independence of Cyprus in 1960, he said, adding that bilateral cooperation has steadily developed after President Sisi took the helm in 2014.

Following Egypt's revolution on June 30, 2013, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades visited Egypt six times, a matter that reflected distinguished cooperation and coordination between Cairo and Nicosia at the regional and international levels, Moritzis said.

Sisi is scheduled to start a visit to Cyprus on Monday.

The first trilateral summit was held in Cairo in November 2014, the second in Nicosia in April 2015, the third in Athens in December 2015 and the fourth in Cairo in October 2016.
