CAIRO – 15 November 2017: Egypt’s Interior Ministry arranged an educational forum on women’s role within the society titled, “Together to Appreciate Women,” which took place on Wednesday morning and had several prominent women honored.

According to the ministry’s official statements regarding the event, the idea came after President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s statements during the World Youth Forum (WYF) which referred to Egyptian women’s roles and the sacrifices they commit for their families and country.

“Women have always been important effective members in our society and especially when it comes to their country, and the best example for this is our women martyrs who died as they were serving their country,” Khalid Hamdi, the interior minister’s assistant, said during a speech he gave on behalf of Interior Minister Magdy Abdel Ghaffar during the forum.

Hamdi affirmed that the ministry has always been keen on women's participation in all different activities and roles within it.

The educational forum was attended by a number of the interior ministry’s figures and leaders and it comes in conjunction with the state’s declaration to make 2017 women’s special year. Consequently, a number of facilities and services have been offered by the state to women.

During the WYF’s fourth day, Sisi highlighted women’s role within the society. “Unfairness is what forms most of Arab women’s problems, and I speak particularly about the Egyptian woman,” Sisi said.

He further said that the political keenness to empower women will not be effective unless the warped social culture towards women is changed.

“During the June 30 Revolution, Egyptian women were most aware of the dangers facing them and the future of their children,” Sisi explained.
