CAIRO – 15 November 2017: King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) signed on Tuesday an agreement to establish two projects for treating and preventing cholera in Yemen.

KSRelief signed an agreement with the World Health Organization to carry out two projects worth about $22.7 million for treating and preventing the waterborne disease in Yemen, Makkah News reported.

The outbreak of cholera in Yemen took place in 2016. Save the Children warned earlier that one million people will be infected with cholera in Yemen by the end of 2017 if current rates persist.

Also, awareness campaigns were launched on Tuesday in Al-Houta in Lahj governorate, Yemen, to combat insects carrying dengue fever. These awareness campaigns were a part of the final phase of a project sponsored by KSRelief and executed by Al-Awn Foundation for Development, aiming to combat the break bone fever, Yemeni Aden al-Ghad reported.

KSRelief was inaugurated in May 2015 by Saudi King Salman. The centre aims to manage and coordinate relief activities internationally to ensure external aid is provided in accordance with national interests, according to KSRelief’s official website.
