CAIRO – 14 November 2017: The Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Roberto Azevêdo received on Monday Ambassador Alaa Youssef, Permanent Representative of Egypt to Geneva, who presented his credentials as a permanent delegate to WTO.

Youssef expressed his intention to strengthen the bonds of constructive cooperation between Egypt and the Organization.

Youssef also pointed out that Egypt has been interested in the pivotal role that the WTO plays in the management of the multilateral international trading system ever since President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met the director-general of the WTO in September 2014 during his visit to Egypt.

Prior to his appointment to Geneva, Youssef had been serving as the spokesperson of the Egyptian Presidency since September 2014. He was a political advisor to the secretary-general of the Union for the Mediterranean, based in Barcelona from June 2010 to August 2014. He also served as a counsellor at the Embassy of Egypt in Paris from August 2007 to June 2010, and a counsellor at the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt from September 2005 to July 2007.
