BAGHDAD - 11 November 2017: Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al Abadi asserted on Saturday that Baghdad is ready to play a role in resolving the region’s problems.

In statements during his visit to the holy city of Karbala, Abadi said the country's parliamentary elections will be held in their due date.

Meanwhile, he warned of some persons who incite sectarian strife via some social media websites, affirming that they couldn’t achieve their goal in dividing Iraqi people.

Abadi also asserted that Baghdad does not need mediators to start talks with Kurdish people.

The statements were made in the wake of a political rift between Baghdad and Erbil after the Kurds’ September independence referendum.

Abadi called on Kurdish government employees to be patient before Baghdad begins sending their monthly salaries.
