CAIRO - 4 November 2017: Egyptian TV presenter Doaa Salah was sentenced to three years in jail and a LE 10,000 fine by an Egyptian court for “outraging public decency” after discussing being a single mother on her show on Al-Nahar TV in July.

The presenter discussed unconventional ways for a woman to become a single mother, suggesting that a woman could marry briefly only to conceive in exchange for money based on a pre-agreement, and then divorce.

Salah also mentioned during the episode that sperm donation is an accepted norm in western countries for women to conceive but not in Arab societies.

Sex outside of marriage goes against the conservative nature of Egyptian society and is considered a sin in Islam.

This is not the first time that Doaa Saleh has stirred controversy. She once appeared in her TV show lying in a tub covered with soapy foam to discuss the idea of rushing to make judgements about others.
