CAIRO – 3 November 2017: Metro tickets will increase by 2018, Amr Sha’at, deputy minister of transportation, announced on Friday during an interview with Al-Dostour newspaper. Sha’at did not mention how much they would increase.

Sha’at mentioned that the “fair price” for the metro’s ticket would amount to LE 8 ($0.5); adding that discussions are now underway for a possible collaboration with the Arab Organization for Industrialization on producing Egyptian tractors.

The Transport Ministry will work on developing 1,200 kilometers of railways with a cost of LE 21 million for each kilometer, Transport Minister Hisham Arafat said Saturday in a press conference.

He added that his ministry contracted with the European Bank to supply 100 passenger wagons, in addition to contracting to provide another 1,000 upgraded wagons with a total cost of LE 16 billion.
