CAIRO – 26 October 2017: The World Youth Forum (WYF) expected to be held under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi in Sharm el-Sheikh city from November 4 to 10, 2017 is poised to include several events and sessions as well as a United Nations Simulation Model.

About 60 individuals from all over the world will participate in the simulation during the full duration of the forum. Several topics are anticipated to be discussed by the youth, in resemblance to the regular sessions of the UN according to internationally-recognized regulation.

The participants of the simulation will represent all UN state members with their announced official stances towards the topics tackled during the sessions. The simulation aims to conclude with solutions for all discussed crises.

“International peace and security, terrorism, the cyber war, irregular and illegal migration” will be among the topics tackled during the UN simulation model sessions.

Egypt is known to host several UN models in universities and schools.

In July 2017, the diplomatic Egyptian club hosted a roundtable discussion with the UN Egyptian association to highlight the importance of the UN and the Model Arab League to students in colleges and schools.

The roundtable discussion was presented by Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Relations and International Security Ambassador Hesham Badr.

Additionally, head of the Cultural Committee of the Diplomatic Club Ambassador Amr El Gewaily, head of the Egyptian UN Association Ambassador Ezzat el-Behairy, Arab League spokesman Mahmoud Afifi, United Nations resident coordinator Richard Dictus, Egypt’s nominee for UNESCO’s Secretary-General Moushira Khatab, as well as numerous Egyptian students who have participated in the United Nations and the Model Arab League will attend.

“I hope the coming generations get the chance to do and change what the current generation failed to do, especially with their governments,” Dictus said during his speech, referring to the Model UN students.

He added that through their role play, the students learn UN ethics and adopt the cases of peace, prosperity and justice. “We need the youth’s ideas and innovations to surface and make people able to live with each other peacefully,” Dictus said; adding that he believes in the United Nations’ ability to change.

Dictus also stated that all students who participated in similar models need to believe that it will add value to their country.

Other ambassadors’ speeches were mostly about the importance of the student models and how most of them were part of it one day even before beginning their diplomatic career.
