CAIRO - 26 October 2017: Tourism Minister Yahia Rashed met with the 2017 Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere, currently on a visit to Egypt to promote tourism.

The minister met Mittenaere during her visit to the historic Giza Plateau.

Mittenaere expressed happiness to visit Egypt, saying it is a dream that came true.

The French beauty queen said she is fond of the great ancient Egyptian civilization which she came to know through her father who works as a history professor.

She added that the French people are interested in the Egyptian civilization and they are eager to know more about it.

Mittenaere will promote tourism in Egypt through the pictures she posts on her Facebook page.

She posed for pictures with a "#ThisIsEgypt" banner, the slogan of the country's official tourism campaign.

Mittenaere, a 24 year old model, was crowned Miss Universe at the 65th edition of the annual international contest, which was hosted this year by the Philippines.

The Giza Plateau visit is the first leg in the French beauty queen's trip to Egypt, where she is also set to participate in a charity event in Luxor for Egypte Terre d'Espoir.

She will also visit the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Mediterranean city of Alexandria.
