CAIRO – 25 October 2017: Qatari businessman and opposition leader Khalid Al-Hail posted a video of U.S. Republican Congressman Robert Pittenger during his participation in the Hudson Institute conference regarding Qatar’s polices on Monday, October 23.

During the one-minute video, Pittenger says that there are many countries that could be described as accomplices in financing and backing terrorism in the region, such as Iran and Qatar. He added that Doha is considered a safe haven for terrorists and wanted individuals.

“I’ve had several meetings with the Qatari emir, in which he told me that he helped al-Qaeda because of his disdain for [Syrian President Bashar] al-Assad. I asked him, ‘What are you going to do about al-Qaeda’; he replied, saying that he will do something later on,” Pittenger said.

Qatar has been facing international accusations of supporting and financing terrorism since June, after Egypt, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE decided to cut all of their diplomatic relations with the emirate.

Several other countries, including Yemen and Chad, announced having evidence that Doha’s government is supporting militias and policies hostile to them.
