BRATISLAVA – 23 October 2017: Slovakia has become a pro-European island in its region, Prime Minister Robert Fico said on Monday, following a weekend election in the Czech Republic that saw the rise of anti-establisment parties, including the victor.

Czech billionaire Andrej Babis's ANO party won the election as voters shunned traditional parties. Babis has said his party was pro-European although he is cool to euro adoption and resists deeper integration of the European Union.

"We could hardly find a better timing for our meeting than a day after the Czech election," Fico said. "I never dared to comment domestic political situation in other countries. But I am glad that Slovakia has become a pro-European island in this region."
