CAIRO – 22 October 2017: The Supreme Council for Media Regulation (SCMR) called on the Egyptian people to support the state in its war on terrorism, stressing its absolute confidence in the wisdom of the political leadership and its ability to continue the fight against the challenges facing Egypt.

Seventeen security personnel were killed and fifteen others were injured during a raid on a militant hideout near the Giza-Al Wahat Road in the Giza governorate.

The Council also extended its condolences to the Egyptian people in the victims of the incident.

The SCMR urged newspapers and the mass media to check the accuracy of news with official sources of the Ministry of Interior, pointing out that false and inaccurate reports confuse public opinion and are not compatible with the strategy of the ministry.

Head of the SCMR Makram Mohamed Ahmed said in a phone call to Sada El-Balad channel that what makes Egyptian media’s job harder is the lack of information from official sources, which helped spread rumors on the number of casualties of the attack.

Security forces are still deployed around the area to observe terrorist elements. The desert road was closed from the direction of Giza and Fayoum with a number of checkpoints to besiege any fleeing terrorists.
