CAIRO – 19 October 2017: Two Egyptians were arrested in Tunisia Thursday after trying to enter the country illegally with a fishing trawler.

According to a statement issued by the Tunisian National Defense Ministry, the coastguards arrested the two Egyptians (father and son) as they were approaching the country from the Libyan coast side.

This, however, was not the first time that Tunisian authorities intercepted Egyptian trawlers with fishermen on it. On October 2016, about 16 fishermen were arrested in Tunisia for illegal entry to the country with the purpose of fishing. Egypt’s foreign ministry regularly issues official statements regarding similar cases until the fishermen’s release.
