CAIRO – 19 October 2017: First trial session of Father Samaan Shehata’s murderer will take place on November 11.

The killer has been referred to the criminal court on Tuesday, pending the prosecution’s decision after he had confessed to committing the crime; claiming that “Christians are infidels and killing them is a religious duty.”

The priest was reportedly raising financial aid for his diocese when the killer followed him and eventually plunged a knife deep into his back, killing him.

No evidence has been found yet to suggest that the perpetrator belongs to any terrorist group.

In nearly every speech President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi delivers, revolutionizing religious discourse to bid inter-faith tolerance is strongly emphasized; following a spate of deadly attacks that hit Egypt in the past few years.
