CAIRO – 13 October 2017: Both Egypt’s and French candidates for UNESCO top post met after the first run-off Friday concluded in France reaching final round with the Qatari candidate.

The French candidate Audrey Azoulay has visited the Egyptian mission in UNESCO, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry and Egypt’s Candidate Moushira Khattab after Egypt finished third and was announced officially out of the race.

Meeting Khattab, Audrey said that Egypt has participated in the UNESCO race “with honor,” wishing her good luck next time.

For her part, Khattab wished Audrey all success in the final round against the Qatari candidate, ensuring that the main goal of the elections is to maintain a “strong UNESCO.”





Egypt’s candidate Moushira Khattab running for UNESCO top post garnered 25 votes Friday in the run-off, leaving the race after maintaining third rank over the past four rounds.

The fifth and last round will see the French candidate Audrey Azoulay who got 31 votes, competing with the Qatari candidate Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari who amassed 22 votes Thursday.

Egypt has officially announced supporting the French candidate in the final round of UNESCO voting due at 18:30 (Cairo local time) against the Qatari candidate, according to Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in statements on Friday.
