CAIRO – 12 October 2017: Syrian factions reach a ceasefire agreement in Southern Damascus on Thursday to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid.

Negotiations are held to decrease tension in more regions in Syria and to stress political solutions in conformity with Geneva's resolutions, according to a leader in the Syrian opposition, Ahmed al-Jarba.

Another meeting will be held in the coming period to implement the de-escalation agreement reached in Cairo on August 3.

Al-Jarba praised the efforts exerted by Egypt in reaching a political solution in Syria and guaranteeing unity and stability of Syria.

Representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry reached an agreement on August 3 with the Syrian opposition after their meeting in Cairo to establish the third de-escalation zone in northern Homs.

Egypt acted as a mediator in this process and provided a platform for negotiations to aid in reaching an agreement.

Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said, "On July 31, a new round of talks between representatives of the Russian Defense Ministry and the moderate Syrian opposition was held in Cairo."
