CAIRO – 07 October 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi inspected on Saturday newly-paved highways in framework of the presidential campaign to develop Egypt’s road and bridge networks nationwide, said presidential spokesperson Alaa Youssef in a statement.

President Sisi inspected the Shoubra-Benha Road, which came at a cost of LE 3.3 billion ($186.7 million), praising the efforts of those implementing projects, in accordance with the latest international standards and specifications.

Other road projects include the Axis of Rawd al–Faraj, area of the gates of the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road and El-Dabaa Road, the statement added.

The 40-kilometer-long Shoubra-Benha Road has been finished, and all traffic and guidance signs were installed, Transportation Minister Hisham Arafat said on Saturday in a press statement during his visit to the road.

Arafat emphasized that Shoubra-Benha Road is the first agriculture road without traffic interruptions, and a traveler can pass the road in 20 minutes. The road will reduce traffic pressure on Cairo–Alexandria Agriculture Road, he continued.

Arafat met with Finance Minister Amr el-Garhy, Minister of Planning Hala el Saeed and General Authority for Roads, Bridges & Land Transport President Adel Turk to discuss the ways of continuing funds to the Regional Ring Road, whose cost is estimated at LE 7 billion.

The Regional Ring Road project aims at linking Egypt’s main routes, which in turn would offset in booming the trade interactions between the Upper and Lower Egypt governorates.
