CAIRO – 4 October 2017: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on Wednesday with Brett McGurk, the US special presidential envoy for the global coalition to combat ISIS.

During the meeting, the two parties probed the latest efforts exerted by the global coalition to defeat ISIS, as well as international coordination in this regard.

Shoukry praised the Iraqi army victories in liberating the land from the terrorist organization ISIS, stressing the importance of not allowing any internal differences to disperse efforts to fight the organization, and he pointed to the need to provide the necessary international support for Iraq to help him complete his mission during this pivotal phase, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid stated.

The foreign minister also assured Egypt's firm stance in the battle against terrorism, pointing out that combating ISIS is not the end, stressing the importance of confronting all these organizations.

For his part, McGurk expressed appreciation for the role played by Egypt in supporting the political settlement of the Syrian crisis and its contribution to supporting the agreement of the low-tension zones in some Syrian regions, Abu Zeid added.

By the end, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen coordination between Egypt and the United States in the field of combating terrorism, as well as in international forums and the United Nations, especially under Egypt's current chairmanship of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the Security Council.
