CAIRO – 2 October 2017: Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Egypt celebrated Sunday night the National Foundation Day (Gaecheonjeol) and the Armed Forces Day, in the presence of high-level Egyptian officials and a number of ambassadors.

Acting South Korean Ambassador to Cairo, Chung Kwang-kyun, gave a speech at the celebration and stated that Former South Korean Ambassador to Egypt Yoon Soon-Gu left office after 10 months, with “Egypt occupying a special place in his heart.”

Kwang-kyun went on to speak about the bilateral relations between Egypt and South Korean. “Although the two countries don’t have a long history of bilateral diplomatic ties, but the relations have been strong in various fields, and the two countries have worked on strengthening the relations since 2013. Egypt and Korea have consular relations that date back to 1961.”

President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s visit to Seoul in March 2016 has pushed forward bilateral relations, the acting ambassador said. “Egypt and Korea can achieve a better future together,” he added.

High-level officials attended the celebration, including assistant Egyptian Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Yasser Murad, and Chinese Ambassador to Egypt Song Aiguo.
