CAIRO – 1 October 2017: The House of Representatives will discuss during its third round the Human Rights Watch’s recent report accusing the Egyptian police of torturing political prisoners.

“The HRW is a suspicious organization that acts in opposition to our country. Many organizations in Egypt, pretending to be rights groups, helped the HRW write this deceptive report”, said Yehia Kodwany, a functionary of the Defense, National Security and Mobilization Committee.

On September 6, The HRW published a report calling on the United Nations to punish those who are responsible for torturing detainees. The report claimed to interview a number of detainees who were tortured by the police from 2014 to 2016.

Although it was thought to be Qatari-funded, the HRW carried out a study that was reported by the CNN on September 27; showing that thousands of Qatar-based migrant workers’ lives are at risk, due to the harsh working conditions and continuous neglect by Qatari authorities.
