CAIRO - 28 September 2017: Today marks the 47th anniversary of late Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser’s death. Dozens of people arrived on Thursday morning to the grave of the departed president, located in Cairo, to commemorate his death.

Defense Minister Sedki Sobhi went to participate in the commemoration of the 47th anniversary of the death of the late leader Gamal Abdel Nasser as a representative of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, where he placed a wreath on Abdel Nasser’s grave.

The commemoration was also attended by a number of Abdel Nasser’s family members, ambassador of Serbia in Cairo, a delegation from the Arab Nasserite party headed by Sayed Abdel Ghani, a number of senior commanders of the armed forces, as well as delegations from Yemen and Libya.

Nasser was born in 1918. He took over as president in 1956, as he led the July 23, 1952 revolution that toppled King Farouk of Egypt. He passed away on September 28, 1970, aged 52, of a heart attack. His funeral was attended by millions of mourners and is still considered one of the biggest funerals in history.
