Spain rejects Kurdistan independence referendum

BAGHDAD – 26 September 2017: Spain rejected Kurdistan independence referendum that was held in Iraq on Monday, the Iraqi Foreign Minister announced Tuesday.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim el Jaafari met with his Spanish counterpart Alfonso Dastis on the sidelines of the 72nd round of UNGA in New York.

Dastis asserted his country’s support for Iraq and rejection of the independence referendum.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar el Abadi announced his rejection of the results of the referendum.
