CAIRO – 26 September 2017: Emirati media outlets circulated Monday photos that showed vehicles believed to be in New York with large screens featuring clips that denounce Qatar’s support to extremism.

The unidentified campaign coincided with the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s visit to the United States to participate in the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

Qatar had launched an advertisement campaign in London last month using black cabs that were painted with the Qatari flag and slogans calling for ending the boycott imposed by Arab countries against Qatar.

More than three months ago, the Gulf has been hit by its biggest diplomatic crisis in years after Arab nations including Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain cut ties with Qatar, accusing it of destabilising the region with its support for Islamist groups.

The Arab quartet halted all land, air and sea traffic with Qatar, and withdrew their diplomats and ambassadors from the Qatari peninsula. The Arab quartet issued 13 demands to Doha – then shortened to six principles - including closing Al Jazeera television, curbing relations with Iran and shutting a Turkish military base.
