CAIRO – 25 September 2017: Former Italian Foreign Affairs Minister Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata demanded that the international community carry on investigating the political scandal of killing around 30,000 political prisoners in Iran in 1988.

He added in statements on Thursday to the UAE-owned newspaper, al-Ain, that what happened this year by the Iranian regime is not something that can be easily forgotten. “This is crucial regarding the credibility of the international community and its justice. We have to get those victims’ rights back to their families and bring responsible to the right punishment,” Terzi said.

He affirmed that at least seven of the Iranian officials who were involved in this massacre are still serving within the Iranian regime, “which is not a coherent situation.”

Terzi added that the Iranian regime has to commit to the international obligations of human rights, as the time has come for the international public opinion to know and understand the Iranian role in the region and how it affects the region’s stability.

Giulio Terzi di Sant'Agata served as Italy’s Foreign Affairs Minister since November 16, 2011, until March 26, 2013.
