Sisi assigns Education Ministry to increase teachers' salaries

PORT SAID - 25 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah Al Sisi has assigned the Education Ministry to set a three-year plan to increase salaries of teachers, Education Minister Tareq Shawqi said on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference in Port Said governorate, Shawqi said the ministry's budget amounts to 80 billion pounds a year; 68 million of which are paid as salaries.

A study was prepared to give teachers an average pay rise of 500 pounds, he noted, adding that this move will require an 8-billion-pound increase in the ministry's budget a year.
